Update:

Nov.20, 1998
Momma Smurf's tummy is now distorting all on its own. The smurfs can now see the child moving. She's at 27 weeks, very healthy and happy.

Nov. 30, 1998
Mr A sent the smurfs: Two beige body suits. a wrist or leg wrap around Teddy Bear rattle. A set of baby spoons, a face cloth, a bib and finally a beautiful little suit. Thanks, A.'s.  Next check up: Dec. 10, 1998.

Dec. 11, 1998
Chrisite had her checkup today and the baby has turned nicely ( Head Down). Kicks up a storm. Weird to watch my wife's whole stomach wobble from the movement. Christie is nearly back to her original weight from before she was pregnant. Blood pressure is perfect. All is well.

Antenatal classes start in 5 days. I am sooooo looking forward to them. (NOT)

About 10 wks to go. Will the husband make it? Stay tuned!

Dec. 21, 1998
We have started the ante natal classes and the next one is tomorrow. They are very informative (and the birth videos are something I'd rather forget)and we are going to see the labor room and the delivery rooms tomorrow as well.

Christie has finally reached her pre pregnancy weight and all is going really well, the doctor is really pleased. Blood pressure is perfect and her health, other than the tiredness and the bladder hassles, is very good. Ah yes, and she is getting the Braxton Hicks contractions. She doesn't much like em. Can't wait till the real ones kick in! heh heh heh

Baby's room is nearly done, just need the change table now. (and the little things like diapers etc etc).

Only 9 wks to go. I am getting more excited and more scared all the time.

I went and bought an ATV or 4WD, however you call them, and sold one of my precious sports cars. *sniff* Not much use for a coupe now anyway. Babyseat is installed and we are ready.

Jan. 5, 1999
Well, it is 7 wks to go. Chrisite has informed me that the baby can comeout now. She still loves it, but it is time for the child to take upresidency OUTSIDE her body. Be anywhere but in here she says. LOL

We also want to thank RED BIRD for the Simply Stunning Hand made blanket.A sort of Apricot/Pink silk on one side and a Pink and white checkeredpattern on the other! It is so beautiful that we will be taking the babyhome from the hospital in THAT blanket. It is just perfect.

The baby's room is finally finished. Now we just require the baby i guess!I am as ready as i will ever be....... which is not at all.

Jan 6, 1999

Good Luck you two as your exciting day approaches.. I hope everything goes well and wish you the best of joy on the approaching birth... Hurry up and post some pictures on the page ASAP after bubs is born!!!

YAY!!! Another Aussie in the world!

Thank you Singshine for the beautiful handstiched baby blanket. A large Pink one with some damn difficult lookingneedlework! Christie has placed it as the cot blanket and it looks great! Personally, i think we could use it as a wall tapestry, it looks so nice.

2/4/99

False Labor yesterday. Went to the obstetrician and everything is great. Head has really dropped now. All the insides are ready. But we had a false labor. GRRRRRRRRR

AND FINALLY................

Journal of a new father

2/15/99, 5:32am

Well, it is finally happened. At 7:45 pm our time on the 15 Feb. Christie went into labor. She is currently 2cm dilated and the midwife says she is in for a long night.

2/17/99 4:48AM

At 9:22am on Tue. 16th Feb. Christie gave birth to a 7lb 4oz baby girl. (Stephanie Diane) The actual delivery took 18 minutes. Christie was given an epidural at 3 am so she would be rested for the delivery. A perfect delivery with no ill effects at all and no pain whatsoever. Perenium remained intact. Everything is perfect. The child looks like Daddy and sleeps at least 7 hrs at night and is very placid. Loves Daddy's voice..................

2/17/99 4:53AM

Atm, it appears that only Daddy's voice will do. She loves resting in my arm and nuzzling in. I cried a waterfall today as I held her. Told my wife I wasn't sad. Quite the opposite. But, I am scared shitless. She is such a little wonder, I only hope I do a good job. Christie has Breastfeeding down pat and the child latches on like a thirsty bomber refuelling over Beiruit. Oh, and she is 19 1/4 inches in length. She plans to be a tall one! LOL

2/17/99 4:56AM

Daddy was there through the whole delivery. Watched the head appear. ( it looked so big ) I thought "How did they fit the whole body in?" Cut the cord and then cut the cord again for the bellybutton. She loves water and is so placid. We pick her up, unwrap her, undress her, put her in the bath, dry her, dress her, wrap her up. And NOT SO MUCH AS A WHIMPER. She sleeps like a baby (HAHA) and is so calm. (Takes after her mother on that score)......

2/17/99 5:01AM

She looks like a little gem. The Midwife actually said to us. "I know we say to parents that they have the perfect child...but your IS actually perfect. She is so quiet and peaceful" I nearly kissed her. Stephanie today actually had a little cry. No one could placate her. Not Grandma or Mommy, so...Daddy stepped in and took her and she turned quiet as a Church. My wife went and laughed so hard in her mothers shoulder. Her mother said ...........

2/17/99 5:04AM

"Are you laughing or crying?" Christe is SOOOOO happy that I have bonded with the child so well. It was her pet fear that I may shy away or such. I can understand. But when I finally broke down today with the child fast asleep in my arms she was so relieved. And told me that she was so happy that we bonded so fast. ( I am getting teary now ). I hate this emotion crap. Isn't SHE supposed to have this and I am the one that should be drunk at a bar

2/17/99 5:10AM

Anyhow, I am absolutely smashed, I have had 9 honest hours of sleep in the last 2 1/2 days. But I had to come online and let you all know. A few of you must have been pining I bet! LOL But as you can tell, if it was any better... I would have my head examined. But I know, it will have some trying times and such, but if the beginning here is any indication... I am going to have WAY more good than bad. I take each day with a smile and a wince...

2/17/99 5:14AM

A smile, because I can't wait to see her little face again, and a wince, because I have no idea what to expect and how I will feel. ( I hate that ). Haven't changed a Diaper yet, but, according to Christie and the midwives.... she is going to excell in Chemical Compositions in school. We have had one Wee and 2 bowel movements since birth. Everyone is pleased as punch.... BUT NONE MORE SO THAN ME! I look forward to hearing from all of you..

"Welcome to the world, little Stephanie! It's an exciting place, and you have a lot to learn. One thing you should learn right away is that one's family and friends are one's safety net. You can always count on them to help you out, and look out for you.

You are an especially lucky little girl, though. Thanks to the internet, your parents have friends all over the world, and we have all been looking forward to your arrival. Your safety net extends around the planet! If you need anything (advice, a place to stay on vacation) that your parents can't help you with (and I suspect that will be precious little), please call, ICQ, or e-mail us. When your dad will let you at the computer, that is.

One more thing. Stephanie, please go easy on your parents. They will try their best, but they are new at this. They are bound to make some mistakes. Be patient with them. Remember, you are also new at being akid. You are gonna make some mistakes, too. Learn from your mistakes, as your parents will, and your lives together should be pretty smooth. Have fun!

Welcome to our world Stephanie, we have all been anticipating your arrival. Your Daddy has kept us updated with your progress and we anticipate watching you grow into a beautiful young lady. Someday, He will teach you about the Internet and show you the wonders of communication that made us all celebrate your arrival into this beautiful world. We all see in your arrival, new hope, a reason to love and a future that's brightly shining because you are now a part of this Universe.

God Bless you and your wonderful Parents sweetie... TwoBees

Dear Patrick and Christie:

CONGRATULATIONS!!

We are thrilled that Stephanie came into this world without any problems, it has been a long nine months, tiring, and trying at times I'm sure.. but in my opinion.. (as I'm sure it is now yours) WELL WORTH IT!!!! :-)

There is NOTHING like the love you feel when  holding a child in your arms, rather overwhelming actually, you sometimes feels like your heart will burst.  As Stephanie will get older your love for her will only grow deeper and stronger.

Stephanie.. we've come to know your parents quite well over the course of the last year or so and find them to be remarkable people, loving, caring ,, compassionate.. and yes   even quite humorous at times.. you are one lucky little lady.

I often wonder how we all came to meet and became great friends, and will be eternally grateful for such.  And over the years I hope to continue this wonderful friendship and watch you grow through your parents' eyes.

The other day when dad sent us all an icq message, letting us know that you had decided to make your appearance, the whole lot of us kept sending messages back and forth to see if anyone had received word from dad about how you and mom were doing.. gosh.. it felt like I was waiting for family to let me know about a niece of nephew!!

Then yesterday morning,  incoming messages from Papa Smurf (hehe) told us all what we were dying to know.. that you had come into this world safely and that mom was doing well ... the peace of mind I needed.. we all needed.

The messages just kept pouring in and NEVER in my life have I seen someone so elated (except my own hubby of course)  about the whole thing.. it really blew me away!!  With each and every message, I could sense how truly proud mom & dad are, and how much love they had for you already, Stephanie.  It just warms my heart!!

Our family lives in Ontario, Canada, your parents have online friends from all over the world.

Perhaps someday.. when you're much older of course.. our gang will finally be able to meet and we will get to see the young lady who's touched our lives in such a big way!

Signing off now

Your adoptive online parents

Welcome to humanity, Stephanie. You are in for one "Wild Ride"(tm) ...LOL. Now, about your parents, I can't say anything at all about Christie. Why ? Because I haven't run across her in this electronic world and will not comment from a position of ignorance. Patrick, on the other hand, I have met and have had dealings with and he's a nice guy, and speaking of dealings, Pat ? Did you ever get the Smurfette and Gargamel ? I know you're busy, bud, but I'm in a vacuum here ... Gimme an update ... LOL

All told, Stephanie, I think you are in good hands. :)

Tarnish a.k.a. Andrew Carter

P.S. Keep up the good work regarding the diapers and be advised that when they are changing you it IS good form to urinate on daddy BEFORE he gets the new one fully on you. ;)

Welcome to the world Stephanie, We've never met.. but I have been anxiously awaiting your arrival, I feel as tho I just became a grandma again! (and you can call me grammy) It won't be long before you will be chattering to mommy and daddy, trying to walk, but don't rush growing up lil`one... stay young, healthy and strong... because once your'e grown.. you'll wish for your younger days back.. take it from grammy.. (sometimes I wish I was 25 again) but then again.. If I were, I wouldn't have such beautiful grand children!!

Patrick and Christie... Congrats!!!! Children are a blessing... and withall that I've read.... you were truely blessed! She's an angel!!! I know that you will be great parents... just make sure you tell her everything that concerns her.. never try and Hide things from her to save her feelings or emotions... coz in the long run... it can do more harm than good...wrap your loving arms around her always... and give her a big kiss from"grammy" :)

Christie.... ready to have another one? (lol.. I was asked that after my first child was born) which.. I did have 2 children.. one natural and one c-section (ouch) but... they've grown up to be great kids..

Patrick.... You can honestly be called "papa" smurf now ;) I can hardly wait to see pictures of Stephanie!!!!Hugsssssss to all 3 of you!!! Maybe someday.. I'll venture to your part of the world... I've become quite the traveler these days.. (lol greyhound bus.. ) Luv ya!!!! Bobbie ~aka~ Beatlebabe

Patrick and Christie I wish you the best of luck with Stephanie!!!!  Your words, the beautiful words of a new father, brought tears to my eyes.  I told you all along that any man who cared enough to be scared and showed the emotions you showed through the pregnancy was destined to be a wonderful father.... and you have just proven that to be true!  What a lucky little girl Stephanie is to have parents like you!!

Stephanie Smurf... kinda has a ring to it!

Congratulations and best of luck,

Molly aka Tracy

Dear Little Stephanie,

There is almost nothing I can add to the beautiful thoughts already expressed on this page. It has been such fun getting to know your parents over the past year in this interesting new medium, the Internet, which will probably seem quite archaic by the time you are old enough to read this. But for now, we cyber-friends want you to know how you've been loved and awaited by many real people all over the world.

While thinking of you this morning, I was listening to music which I wish I could magically attach to this message. I will include a few words for you, though... words which were around long before the Internet and which will probably last far beyond... a little prayer for you and your family in honor of your arrival.

For the beauty of the earth,
For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies:
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise.

For the joy of human love,
Brother, sister, parent, child,
Friends on earth and friends above;
For all gentle thoughts and mild:
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise.

God bless you on your way,

Love,
Laurie (the one your friends know as SuziWong)

(((Patrick, Christie & Stephanie)))..

My heart is bursting with happiness for you and your new family. To read your entries, Patrick...is a tribute to the father I know you will be - open, honest, loving and sincere. A daughter could never ask for more than that.
Christie - your willingness to share this event in your life is heartwarming....Stephanie will certainly learn to embrace all facets of her life with goodness and grace.
Stephanie - you are one lucky child! You have parents that anxiously awaited your arrival and shared their joy of welcoming you into this world with all of us. You have wonderful parents - be sure to pay close attention to them - they have a wonderful life planned for you. What a wonderful journey you will have!

I wish you all the best that life has to offer...

Baby Smurfs Progress
Date: Tue, 20 Apr 1999 12:20:35 +0800

Well this is Mrs Smurf (Mummy Smurf) informing everyone that Stephanie is now 9 weeks old today..... it has gone so fast.

As I started work when Stephanie was 7 weeks old, Patrick has had the job of looking after Stephanie during the day, and as far as I can tell they are both having a great time with the current arangement. I express milk twice a day at work and feed Stephanie before and after work, then at 9.00pm and usually once during the night. We are very lucky to have such a good baby.

As for her being a Baby Smurf she sure lives up to the reputation, and smiles most of the time. I can not express to strongly how perfect she is. Also how happy our home is with her in our lives.

We hope to have new photo's posted up soon.

Also we would like to thank everyone who sent gifts....we were overwelmed by the amount of gifts we received, and the thought that went into the choice. We have been lucky to have such thoughtful friends.

Well I must get back to work.

From Stephanie's Mum (Christie)

Sun, 25 Apr 1999 10:10:41 +0100

G'day Stephanie,

This is your "Welcome To The World" letter from your Mother's Long LostCousin - Jason. Years ago people would have ridden hundreds of milesbareback on emaciated mules to deliver words of wellwishes to a newborn babe. Today I can sit on my skinny arse in my lounge chair, compose awitty ditty on my computer while watching my favourite video and downing acool brew. And with the click of an icon - the work is done.

Give me convenience or give me death I say.

I suppose these will all be read out on your 21st birthday - while peoplemake jokes about how you are so old, because you were born last century!

Well I hope this convoluted biosphere treats you well, and concomitantly, you treat it well. For one cannot live without the other. Enjoy life -its the only one you'll ever have.

Peace Love and Mungbeans,

Jason Riley.

Hello Teresa, March 11, 1999

(Well, hopefully this will get to you.)

I am sending you some photographs of the birth of my baby girl. Her name is Stephanie and she is very small.

There is not much to say really, we seem to cover all the bases when we talk on the net. So my letter to you is going to be somewhat dismal I am afraid. Overall, not much has really changed over here, the baby sleeps at night to 4:30 a.m., we give her a feed, and then she sleeps from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. Not too bad, eh? She only cries when she is hungry and if we leave her long enough. She gives us plenty of warning that she is hungry, but, if we leave her, then lookout. "Hey, I am hungry over here. Don’t make me start counting!"

Everything else is just great. I start the day by putting the diaper bucket in the wash. Grab my wife a cup of tea, have a shower myself. Then I make breakfast, do the morning dishes and make our bed. Afternoon is relaxing as the baby either sleeps or has her awake time. I make a little lunch and clean up again. Evenings I make dinner and then fold all the diapers. Do the dishes and refill the sterilizer. Empty the diaper bucket into the wash and relax. Put everything in the dryer and fold when done. Christie gives Stephanie her baby massage and her bath, (which I set up while she massages), then gives her a feed and we are off to bed. Not too bad a routine. Keeps me busy and I love it.

So, the house is clean and we are fine. We went to a parenting type thingy where mothers go once a week to be around other mothers that are in the same situation. I think they all hate us because we think it is a breeze. We really are enjoying this. Hell, some of the mothers want to hire ME to help them. They have never heard of a husband doing so much. Even Christie feels guilty about it sometimes. But I tell her not to worry as I love every bit of it. So, we look at some of them and they have hell babies and they all look haggard, we rock up looking resplendent and with a sleeping baby in our $540.00 Pram, loving every minute of our lives and wondering what all the fuss is about. I think if we come in next time looking like we haven’t slept in a week and allow the baby to vomit all over the pram....... we MIGHT fit in. But, I don’t care, I love it and we are truly enjoying ourselves.

We have had a lot of guests visit us and we have been all over hell and countryside playing "pass the parcel". Everyone wants to see the baby.

I hope you enjoy the pictures, it truly was a momentous occasion. These are of the first few seconds of Stephanie’s life and the subsequent day. (Notice how I kept Christie’s dignity in tact?")

Anyhow, I am going to say farewell and tend to my other activities of the day. I hope this note finds you all in good health and spirits. Take care of yourselves and do not be afraid, (not even for a second), to drop me a line now and again. Snail mail can be slow, but also fun!

Hugs to you all!

Patrick

Subject: Sleeping Baby
Mon, 3 May 1999 12:13:08 +0800
Hello Everyone.

This is another update from Mrs Smurf.

Stephanie is now eleven weeks, and if you have a baby that does not sleep well please do not read any futher as I do not want any hate mail from mothers who have not had the same luck I have had.

On Sunday the 18th of April 1999 at 8:00pm I put Stephanie to bed after a good feed and a little cuddle, 10 hours later I awoke to silence and looked at my husband who asked me "When did Stephanie wake up" and I replied "She hasn't" So I got up and Checked our still sleeping child, went and had breakfast, then at about 7:45am our child very quietly informed us it was breakfast time.

This has been the start of a very good week. Although she does not sleep 11 hours every night she usually sleeps till 6:00am. So we are very happy.

If anyone has any questions to how we do this. It is the fact that our child is a Baby Smurf....and the rest is good luck or good management I guess.

From Mrs Smurf.

Hello everyone,

Stephanie is now 15 weeks old and had here first solids last night. She seemed to enjoy herself and even grabbed the spoon from me and shoved it in her mouth.

We started her on solids as she seems to eat a lot more at night and never seemed to be satisfied.

Other than this latest advance in her progress she has also laughed and giggled over the last couple of weeks.

Please feel free to contact me at dpmwa@upnaway.com and add me to your ICQ list so I can talk to you while I am at work. My ICQ No is 21049315.
